*** DIMF.SHX ***
DIMF is a font that will make fractional dimensions print with the
numerator over the denominator. No special fractional characters are
used to do this, so associative dimensions can be stretched and will
update themselves. This font shouldn't be used for anything other
than dimensions in a format where there is a space immediately before
the fraction. Anything else printed with this font won't look right.
Non-associative dimensions can be changed with the included utility
"TST.LSP" which simply changes the style of normal text.
The font is the standard AutoCAD simplex roman font "ROMANS" with the
space, backslash, and quotation mark symbols redefined. The space
character (" ") has been redefined to place the following character
directly above. The backslash ("/") has been redefined to place a
diagonal line below the previous character and includes the inch
symbol. The quotation mark inch symbol (") has been redefined to
print nothing.
If most of the dimensions you do are in even inches, I suggest
setting the style and font to a normal style (assumed to be "DIM") and
issue the "(FIXDIM)" function immediately following the addition of a
dimension with fractions. Likewise, if most of your dimensions
include fractions, set the style and font to "DIMF" and issue
"(FIXDIM)" immediately following the addition of a dimension without
fractions. The (FIXDIM) function must be issued from the "DIM:"
prompt and in both cases the parenthesis are required. If the style
"DIM" isn't present, an error message will appear and no changes will
be made.
Another way to run the program is using the "FIXDIM" command (without
the parenthesis) from the "Command:" prompt. This will let you put
all the dimensions in without interruption. If the current style is
"DIMF" it will assume you want to change dimensions without fractions.
If the current style is not "DIMF" it will assume you want to change
dimensions with fractions. That may seem backwards but it works well
if it's done after leaving the "DIM:" prompt. In either case this
version of the program requires you to manually pick each dimension to
change. I'm goint to try revising the program to automatically scan
the dimensions and revise any that are necessary.
This is the best solution I have been able to come up with for the
problem of fractions in dimensions. I think it works better than the
workaround solutions that use fonts with fractional characters. If
you have any comments (good or bad) or ideas for how this method could
be used under more circumstances, leave a note in my mail with your name
and User ID number. Hopefully, AutoDESK will wake up and make these
kind of workaround solutions unnecessary.
